Get the app

See current availability. Store links will appear when verified public listings are available. A shared Android APK is a test build, not a Google Play release.

Open a file or switch books

Choose Open file in the library or reader. On Android, choose Downloads (Téléchargements on a French-language device) to find a downloaded book. Choose Library to return to your other documents.

Supported documents

On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, use UTF-8 TXT or Markdown files in the current build. Android also supports text-based PDFs, unencrypted EPUBs, and HTML. Export DOCX or RTF to text first. Scanned PDFs need OCR beforehand; protected books are not supported. Android imports are limited to 32 MB per file and 1,000 PDF pages.

Choose OpenAI and character voices

  1. Open Settings (Voice settings on Apple devices).
  2. Select My OpenAI key, paste your own API key in the API key field, and save it.
  3. Choose a narrator and reading style, then enable Character voices.
  4. Choose Done to return to reading, then Read aloud or Listen.

The selected voice narrates. Recognized characters receive consistent voices from story cues, including female and male voice matching where the text is clear. You can assign a voice to a character name yourself. Ambiguous dialogue may use the narrator. You do not need to restart the book to enable this feature.

OpenAI narration and speaker analysis use your own OpenAI billing and require internet access. Keys are saved separately on each device; no developer key is included. Device voice needs no API key. Android reading-credit purchases are not available; Apple reading credits are not a substitute for a personal key on Android.

Speak to your reader

Enable voice control in Settings, then open Assistant. Try “pause the reading”, “continue reading”, or “move back 20 words”. While narration is playing, start with “Reader” or “Lecteur”. You can also type commands. Turn off voice control or spoken replies in Settings at any time.

On Android, voice input requires Android 12 or newer and an available on-device speech recognizer with the selected language installed. Buttons and typed commands remain available without microphone access.

Language, position, and audio preparation

The reader detects the document language when supported; Android detection requires Android 10 or later and an available system detector. Device speech requires an installed voice for that language.

Reading position, preferences, character assignments, and generated audio are stored locally. Pause before closing to save your latest progress. They do not sync between devices. Android pauses when you leave the app; background and lock-screen playback are not supported in this build.

OpenAI prepares the current passage and caches up to two upcoming sections. Initial preparation, rate limits, or a slow connection can still cause pauses. If you see an API error, check the saved key, connection, and OpenAI quota.

Reading comfort

Settings include larger text, bold text, simpler fonts, contrast, and appearance choices. Library and Open file remain available from the reader.
